The Person That Is Blessed

Psalms 1:1-3–Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

If we want to be blessed then we must follow the instruction of the Lord.

What the blessed person does not do:

1. Walks not in the counsel of the ungodly–There are ungodly people around who are ready to counsel us in the decisions we need to make, the things we should do and the direction our life should take.  We must not live our life according to ideas, advice and recommendations of these people.  They don’t have the insight of God’s word nor do they have the mind of Christ and they don’t have the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

2. Stands not in the way of sinners–Following the counsel of the ungodly will cause us to stand in the way of sinners. We must not live our life in the way that sinners do. They are guided by the lusts of the flesh the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. They are hindered by the cares, the riches, and the pleasures of this world. “They walk according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience”.

3. Sits not in the seat of the scornful–The scornful feel anger and look down on or in a negative way toward others. They see themselves as being better than others. They express these feelings and attitudes towards others in words and actions.

What the blessed person does:

1.  Delights in the law of the Lord–These find great pleasure in the word of God. They spend a great amount of time in the word of God. They seek counsel from the word of God as to the decisions they should make, the things they should do and the direction of their life. We must live our life according to the word of God and be guided by the Spirit of God. We place our faith in God and walk by faith when we follow God’s word and His Spirit.

The results–The blessed person will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water; having all of their needs met.  The blessed person will bring forth fruit and accomplish that for which they are intended.  They shall not be hindered and suffer lose.  They shall thrive and succeed.
