Walk Worthy Of The Lord

Colossians 1:10–Walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.

Walk worthy of the Lord–Our life is to have worth.  It is to be lived in agreement and conformity with the Lord.  He is the measure of worth and the more we become like Him the more worthy we are of Him.  This scripture gives us three ways that we can walk worthy of the Lord.

1. Unto all pleasing–We are to live our life in order to please the Lord and give Him pleasure. Pleasing the Lord involves following His will for our life. We are to be an extension of and fulfillment of His will. Jesus lived His life like this. Over and over He said, “I came not to do my own will but the will of Him that sent me.” And the Father spoke from heaven saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Being a pleasure to the Lord is to walk in obedience to His word and His will. In so doing we shall walk worthy of Him.

2. Being fruitful in every good work–Our life is to be productive in every good work. We are a product of the God; “It is He that has made us and not we ourselves” (Psalms 100:3). “We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). We are to be productive in good works.  Our life is to glorify the Father.  “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples” (John 15:8).  Jesus gives us the key to being fruitful.  “He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5).  This abiding involves a spiritual connection with him wherein the essence of his life flows into us and through us and thereby bearing fruit.

3. Increasing in the knowledge of God–We are to be growing into the full knowledge of God. This comes about in two ways. We grow into a fuller knowledge of Him through His word and through personal interaction with Him. As we abide in Him and He abides in us we will grow in our knowledge of Him. As our minds are renewed by the Holy Spirit, our teacher and guide, we will increase in our knowledge of and experience of God.

If we live to please the Lord in everything we do,

are fruitful in every good work,

and increase in our knowledge of God,

then we will walk worthy of the Lord.
