The Course Of The World

Ephesians 2:2–Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience.

This world is traveling on a course–It is a path directed by the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience.  It is a path of disobedience to God and His word.  It is a path that leads away from God.  The prince of the power of the air is Satan and he uses the cares, the pleasures and the riches of this world to distract us and to preoccupy our thoughts and our lives.  His goal is to keep the word of God from bringing forth fruit in our lives.  People who follow the course of the world live according to the lusts of their flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh, and of the mind.  “The lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world” (1 John 2:16).  Not only do individuals follow the course of the world but groups of people can operate at this lower level.  If you closely examine our country you can see it.  Our country has moved farther and farther away from God.  You see it on TV, in the movies, in the music, and in other aspects of the media.  You see it in decisions that are made by our government and also in the court system. Removing creationism, prayer, and the Bible from our schools is just one example.

Once we walked in this way, “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us together with Christ, (by grace you are saved)” (Ephesians 2:4-5).  We were dead in trespasses and sins but God quickened us, giving us new life through being born of His Spirit.  Romans 6:4 says, that we are to walk in newness of life.  Romans 6:12 says, “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof”.  Let us not follow the course of the world, away from God and in disobedience to Him and His word.  God will strengthen us through the Holy Spirit who dwells within us that we might live as He would have us to do.

Check back tomorrow to see where the course of this world is headed.
