We Are Overcomers

1 John 4:4–Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

He that is in the world:  He is “the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2).  He is the one who tempts us to follow the lusts of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.  He is the one who tempts us to fulfill the desires of the flesh, and of the mind.  He is Satan and the devil.

He that is in us:  He is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, the Spirit of truth.  He is the one who teaches us all things and brings to our remembrance what God has said unto us.  He is the one who guides us into all truth.  He is the one who enables us to display the fruit of the Spirit.  He is the one who manifests Himself through us in the form of the gifts of the Spirit.  “We have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellence of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:7-11).  “It is God which works in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).  He works in us not just to bring our will in line with his will, but as we yield to his will He works in and through us to perform it.  “We are more than conquerors through him that loved us’ (Romans 8:37).

“Thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).
