Transformation

Romans 12:2–Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Growing in the Christian Experience involves a transformation.  Growing involves change and change begins in the mind.  Most people are busy being conformed to this world.  They follow after the latest fads.  They seek after the latest fashions.  They are involved with keeping up with the Joneses.  They are too earthly minded to be of any heavenly good.  They are carnal and their mind is centered upon the things of the flesh.  “To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be” (Romans 8:5-7).  God’s says “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).   Our life will be transformed to the degree that our mind is renewed.  Our mind is renewed as the Holy Spirit teaches us and guides us into all truth and as he leads us to apply this truth to our lives.

Having the mind of Christ–“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5).  God lifts us to a higher level in our minds with the goal being for us to have the mind of Christ.  This allows us, more and more, to see things from God’s perspective.  It brings us to a higher level of understanding, knowledge, and wisdom from which our lives can be directed.   And, as our minds are renewed we will prove the good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God, by the life that has been transformed.    We become a new creature in Christ Jesus and through this transformation old things pass away and behold all things become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17).  We are transformed so that we should not live the rest of our time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God (1 Peter 4:2).  And many will think it strange that we run not with them to the same excess of riot, and will speak evil of us (2 Peter 4:4).  The degree of this transformation determines the degree of our spiritual growth and maturity.
