Blessed, Chosen, Adopted, and Accepted

Ephesians 1:3-6–Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: according as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings–God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings.  These blessings far exceed the earthly blessings we are so accustomed to.  These blessings are spiritual and are for a spiritual people; a people who have been born again, born of the Spirit of God.  In heavenly places speaks of the origin of these blessings and of our inheritance reserved for us in heaven.  These blessing are ours in connection with Jesus Christ.

He has chosen us in Christ–He chose us in Christ and for Himself before the world began.  In the fullness of time the Father draws us to Jesus (John 6:44).  He chose us that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.  For us to be holy and without blame we must be in Christ.

Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children–It is by Jesus Christ that we are adopted unto the Father according to the good pleasure of His will.  Being a work of God’s grace, we are to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He has made us accepted in the beloved.  By an act of God’s grace we are made accepted in connection with Jesus.  We are to live therefore to the glory of our Father.
