From Glory To Glory

2 Corinthians 3:18–We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

After God had delivered Israel from Egypt, God told Moses to meet Him upon the mountain.  “The sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.  And Moses went into the midst of the cloud” (Exodus 24:17-18).  “Moses came down and when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone” (Exodus 34:30).  When the children of Israel saw Moses skin shining they were afraid and Moses put a vail over His face.

We are being changed.  As Moses went into the midst of the presence of God and received God’s word, we do so as well.  When we enter into the midst of the presence of God we do so with open face beholding the glory of the Lord as Moses did.  We are changed (transformed) into the same image progressively from glory to glory.  This change is the work of the Spirit of the Lord.  We are “transformed by the renewing of our mind” (Romans 12:2) as the Holy Spirit reveals God’s word to us.  This is an inward change that results in outward evidence of this work of God.  We were once conformed to this world but are now being transformed and changed into the image of the Lord.  It began with our being born of the Spirit of God and continues as long as we are upon this earth.  It not only involves the renewing of our minds but also refers to the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  This manifestation is in the form of the fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit.

God has “predestined us to be conformed to the image of His Son” (Romans 8:29).  And “He which has begun a good work in us will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).  “It is God who is working in us, both to will and to do, of His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).  “We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:10).
