Building Your Life

Matthew 7:24-27–Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

What are we building our life on?–Are we building on a rock or on sand?  Are we building our life on a sure, solid foundation or are we building our life on a weak, unstable foundation?  The way we build our life reveals whether we are wise or foolish.

The wise person–This person builds his/her life on the fundamental truth that was taught by Jesus and is revealed in God’s word.  God gives us the rules of conduct.  He tells us how we are to live our lives.  He tells us what our relationship with Him and with others is to be like.  He also tells us how to make these relationships all that they should be.  His word reveals how we can have a life that is filled with love, joy, and peace.  If we are doers of His word and not hearers only, then we are building our lives on a sure and solid foundation and when the destructive forces of this world come against us we will be able to stand in victory over them.  Be a doer of the word and not a hearer only deceiving yourself (James 1:22).

The foolish person–This person does not build their life on a sure and solid foundation.  They build their life on the wisdom of this world and of men.  They live their life according to the ways of man and not of God.  They are conformed to this world in which everything is always changing and nothing is solid and sure.  The wisdom and ideas of mankind are always changing.  One day it is this way and the next it is another way.  Their life will not be able to stand up against the destructive forces they must face in this world.

Which way do you choose?
