Luke 10:38-42–Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Cumbered about much serving–Martha was over-occupied with much serving.  She complained that her sister had left here alone to do all the serving.  She was full of care and anxiety and was troubled about many things.  We often take on more than we should. We become overloaded physically and or mentally and spiritually drained.  We became filled with care and anxiety and are troubled about many things.  It becomes hard for us to focus.  We become irritable and begin to complain about things or other people much as Martha did here.  Churches often find someone who is spiritual and usable in the service of the Lord and then overburden them with too many things.  Service for the Lord through the church should be a blessing and not a burden.

What is the one thing needful?–Jesus said that Mary had chosen that good part, that one thing needful.  We too need to spend some time at the feet of Jesus as Mary was doing.  We need to cast our cares upon Him and listen to what He has to say.  Then we need to prioritize the many things we have to do according to their importance and as to which need to be done first.  Then we can to focus on taking care of the things one at a time and be in a better frame of mind
