Be Quiet, Mind Your Own Business, And Work Hard

1 Thessalonians 4:11–Study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you.
Study–Give careful thought and examination. God directs us here to give careful thought and to examine carefully three different things.

Study to be quiet–We are to learn how to hold our tongue in check. Ecclesiastes 3:7 says that there is “a time to keep silence and a time to speak”. Unless we have something profitable to say then we should be quiet. We are not to be gossips or tattlers. Nor are we to speak things that we should not.

Study to do your own business–We are to keep our noses out of other people’s business. We are not to be busybodies.

Study to work with your own hands–My grandmother always said, “Idle hands is the devil’s workshop.”  Idleness leads too much talking which can lead to gossiping or speaking things that we should not. Idleness often causes a person to become a busybody; getting into other people’s business.
