Be Merciful

James 2:13 “He shall have judgment without mercy, that has shown no mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment.”

In yesterday’s post we saw how God has mercy on us and today we discover that God expects us to have this same mercy toward our fellow man.
He shall have judgment. “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
1. For Christians. “We shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ…So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God” (Romans 14:10, 12). “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he has done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10).
2. For the non-Christians. “I saw a great white throne, and He that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works” (Revelation 20:11-12).
Show no mercy, receive no mercy. God expects us to show mercy towards others.
1. Inward. We are to have an inward compassion and pity for those facing difficult times and temptations.
2. Outward. We are to express this compassion and pity in ministering to the needs of others.
Mercy rejoices against judgment. Where mercy is received in judgment there can be rejoicing. Where there is no mercy in judgment there remains only pain, loss, and sorrow.
