Learning To Walk–Part 3

Galatians 5:25 “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Walking worthy of the Lord: We are to live our life in a way that expresses our esteem for the Lord. We are to live in a way that expresses how important the Lord is to us and how much we value our relationship with Him. Our life should also be an expression of our thankfulness for all that he has done for us. To do this we must walk in the Spirit.

Walk in the Spirit: To walk in the Spirit is to live our life under the influence of the Holy Spirit. It is to have the fruit of the Spirit manifest in our life. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance” (Galatians 5:22-23). Having become partakers of the divine nature of God (2 Peter 1:4), this fruit is to grow out of His nature and to be manifest in our life. This fruit far exceeds the love, joy, peace, etc. that we experience from our human nature.

Walk in the Spirit: If we walk in the Spirit we shall not fulfill the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). We are to walk in the Spirit that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us (Romans 8:4). We are to be “rooted and built up in Him”–receiving of his life, nature, character, and power (Colossians 2:6-7). To walk in the Spirit is to be firm and secure in our faith. To walk in the Spirit is to abound therein with thanksgiving for what God has done and is doing in and through us. It is to experience a joy that is expressed by speaking to yourself in psalm and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Walking in the Spirit is also necessary to our spiritual growth.
