If Our Gospel Be Hid

2 Corinthians 4:3-4: “If our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

If our gospel is hid: The gospel is the same; it is the power of God and the wisdom of God. God sends His gospel because He is “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). However, this gospel is hid to those that believe not and are lost. Their minds have been blinded by the god of this world. The light of the glorious gospel of Christ shines forth in all of its brightness. They cannot wrap their thoughts around the gospel and come to an understanding of it. They abide in the darkness and blindness of unbelief.

They cannot grasp the meaning and the reality of the truth of God’s love for them. Nor can they see the reality of who Jesus really is and what He has done for them. They are blind to the glory of Christ in the gospel and of His divinity.

This is why we must intercede for them in prayer and continue to share the gospel with them. We must fight a spiritual battle for them for they are weak in unbelief and defenseless. Pray that God will “open the eyes of their understanding” (Ephesians 1:18) and “shine in their hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6). Jesus came to seek and to save them that are lost and as we follow Him, He will make us to be fishers of men.

God give us a burden for the lost. Amen.
