Our Responsibility To Grow

2 Peter 3:18: “Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Grow: Most Christians think that once they get saved that is it. However it is just the beginning. When a baby is born everything is not done. That baby is expected to grow. When we are born again, born of the Holy Spirit, we begin a new life and it is just the beginning. We are expected to grow spiritually. We have a spiritual responsibility to grow. We are to be in the process of growing during our complete existence on this earth. It is never to stop. To grow is to increase in spiritual maturity, stability and reliability.

Grow in grace: We are to increase in grace. Grace is divine, undeserved, and unmerited favor. God gives it and we receive it. We are to increase in our reception of His loving kindness and goodwill. He has an untold number of blessings that He wants to bestow upon us. These include times of experiencing His presence and times of experiencing His power.

Grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ: He dwells within us by His Spirit. We will grow in our knowledge of Him through His word and through personal experience. He will reveal Himself to us mentally and experientially. We will grow in our knowledge of Him as He showers us with the blessings of His grace. We are to dedicate ourselves to this relationship by studying His word, by prayer and talking with Him. We are to give ourselves to this relationship by following Him and being obedient to the word and to the Spirit. If we do this He will become more real to us as time goes by. If we try we can become more familiar with Him and more aware of His presence with us from day to day. God bless us more and more with your grace and help us to grow in our relationship with you. Amen.
