We Are God’s Workmanship

Ephesians 2:10: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

We are His workmanship: We are what God has made us by His grace. “It is He that has made us and not we ourselves” (Psalms 100:3). As some have said, “He doesn’t make any junk”. He made us a new creature in Christ Jesus.

Created in Christ Jesus: We were created in union with Jesus Christ. He is in us and we are in Him. He is our life and power.

Created unto good works: These good works are according to God’s judgment and not that superficial judgment of mankind. These consist of the thoughts, words, and deeds that originate from the new life we have received. They have the fruit of the Spirit and the word of God as their foundation. They spring forth from the Spirit as we walk in obedience to God’s word. They manifest the righteousness and holiness that exist in this new life in Christ.

God has ordained that we should walk in them: He has prepared us for this, set us aside for this, and decreed or commanded that we should walk in these good works. Let us not be weary in well doing and we will hear Him say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).
