We Are Saved And Sealed

Ephesians 1:13: “In whom (Christ) you also trusted, after that you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom (Christ) also after that you believed, you were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.”

First we hear the word of truth:This truth is a reference to the gospel of our salvation, the gospel of Christ. Preachers are called and sent by God, they preach the gospel, people hear, they believe, and they call upon the Lord (Romans 10:14-15). “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). “It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe” (1 Corinthians 1:21). “The preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18).

Second we believe and trust in Christ: ”Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). We place our faith in Him.

Third we are sealed with the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is the mark of ownership. We were bought with a price (the suffering and death of Jesus) and we belong to God, our body and our spirit are God’s (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). The Holy Spirit whom we have received is a living seal of God’s ownership. He is also the seal of promise. “God has sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts” (2 Corinthians 1:22). The Holy Spirit is the earnest or the down payment, a foretaste of that which is to come and which God has promised us. It pertains to our inheritance.

We are God’s and He knows how to provide for and protect His own. As our heavenly Father, He watches over us, leads and guides us, teaches us and trains us that we might be more than conquerors in this world and live a life that is pleasing to Him.
