Faith Without Works Is Dead

James 2:19-20: “You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But know this, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”

You believe that there is one God; you do well: There are many people that believe that there are many gods. This is a deception and lie of Satan. There is one God and only one God. If we believe this then we do well.

The devils also believe and tremble: A belief that there is one God that does not influence our lives, puts us in company with the devils. “When He was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. And, behold, they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? are you come hither to torment us before the time?” (Matthew 8:28-29). Here is only one example of the devils belief and trembling. They knew exactly who Jesus was and that in due time they would suffer torment for their response toward God and their way of living.

Faith without works is dead: A dead faith is a belief that is not acted upon nor does it have any effect on our decisions and actions. A dead faith does not accomplish anything. It has no life in it. It produces no proper response to God, nor does it result in a proper way of living. We are to walk in accordance to our faith.
