Let Us Excercise Ourselves Unto Godliness

1 Timothy 4:7-8: “Refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profits little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”

Refuse profane and old wives’ fables: Don’t take these things seriously. Refuse to spend one moment discussing them or arguing against them. They show disregard or contempt for sacred things. They are stories that are untrue.

Exercise yourself unto godliness: We are to give ourselves to the active use of the word and doctrines of God in order to renew our minds and transform our lives. By using the word of God in our life we are to become spiritually mature and more godly or God-like.

Godliness is profitable unto all things: Godliness is full of promise. It promises and brings great profit and benefits with respect to everything that pertains to this physical, earthly life and to our spiritual life and to the heavenly life which is to come.

Let us exercise ourselves unto this godliness
and reap the blessed promises of it.
