Loves Greatness

1 Corinthians 13:13: “Now abides faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”

Now abides faith, hope, and charity (love):
1.  Faith: “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is a present reality because we don’t have the things we hope for and we can’t see them.
2.  Hope: “Hope is a feeling that what is wanted will happen.” (Webster’s Dictionary). Hope abides now because what we want to happen has not yet become a reality.
3.  Love: Love is a strong feeling or affection for someone. We feel it, show it, and take great pleasure in it.

But the greatest of these is charity (love): Love is the greatest because it is something that shall endure beyond this earthly life. When we get to heaven we will have no need of faith for we will have all that we hope for. We will see it and experience it. We will have no need of hope for we will have what we wanted and needed. “Hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man sees, why doth he yet hope for?” (Romans 8:24). Everything we could ever hoped for we will have. Love on the other hand is something that we shall feel, show, and take great pleasure in when we get to heaven. We shall dwell in the very presence of love for “God is love”. We shall experience love from our brothers and sisters in Christ to a degree that we have never experienced it before. Therefore the greatest of these is love.
