Overcoming The World

1 John 5:4-5: “Whosoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”

Whatsoever is born of God: Those who believe on the name of Jesus are born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12-13). Everyone who wants to see and enter the kingdom of God must be born again; born of the Spirit. (John 3:3-5). We have experienced a spiritual birth and the Spirit of Christ dwells within us and bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. (Romans 8:9-16). “As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:14).

Overcomes the world: The world is traveling on a course and its path is directed by the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience (Ephesians 2:2). It is a path of disobedience to God and His word and is a path that leads away from God. Because we have been born of God, have the Spirit of Christ dwelling within us, and are led by the Spirit, we are more than conquerors of this world and the devil.

This is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith: Our victory is in our faith as we walk by faith and not by sight. We face life with all of its trials, tribulations, heartaches, sorrows, sickness, etc. with a trust in God and a dependence upon the Spirit of God within us and the victory is ours. Yes, “in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” (Romans 8:37). “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).

Victory belongs to those “that believe that Jesus is the Son of God”.
Whether we walk and live in this victory is up to us.
