Live Peaceably With All Men

Romans 12:18: “If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men.”

If it be possible: It is not always possible to live peaceably with others. “If possible” covers this impossibility. Some people are not satisfied unless they are in the midst of some conflict. Their troubled life issues from a troubled heart and infects many around them

As much as lies in you: Let the impossibility rest upon them. We must do everything we can to live at peace with everyone. This will not happen if we are walking in the flesh. First, we must have peace in our own heart and be at peace our self. “As much as lies in you” points us to the Holy Spirit within us, who is our helper. It points us to a strength that exceeds our normal human strength. It is only as we walk in the Spirit and draw strength, knowledge and wisdom from the new life in Christ that we can operate within the realm: “As much as lies in you”.

Live peaceably with all men: Not quarrelsome. We are to live peaceably with everyone. We may not be able to do this outwardly, but because we have done everything in our might to make it happen we can be at peace with ourselves, and with God, and thus be at peace with them in our heart. We can have an inner peace.

We have the Prince of Peace to Help us: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given… The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). THANKS BE TO GOD.
