Spiritual Nourishment

1 Peter 2:2 “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that you may grow thereby.”

Newborn babes: As Christians we have been born of the Spirit and have become spiritual beings with a spiritual life. We have become newborn babes in Christ. Just as we are physical beings and need physical nourishment, as spiritual beings we need spiritual nourishment also. We must feed on the word of God to receive the spiritual nourishment that we need to be spiritually strong and healthy.

As we grow: “Every one that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongs to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil” (Hebrews 5:13-14). As we see here the word of God is referred to as milk and meat. Milk is a reference to the basics or A, B, C’s. Meat is a reference to the deep things of God. We move from the milk of the word to the meat of the word by using it in our life. Let us not neglect getting into the word of God and using it in our life.

God, open the eyes of our understanding to your word and help us to use it in our lives that we might grow and become mature spiritually, and not be carnal and walk as men of the world. Amen.
