Ambassadors For Christ

2 Corinthians 5:18-20 “All things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation; to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and has committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ.”

What is an ambassador: An ambassador is the highest ranking representative of one country to another. As Christians we are Christ’s highest ranking representatives to this world. An ambassador is also an official messenger on a special mission.

God has commissioned us as His messengers: Jesus said, “As my Father has sent me, even so send I you” (John 20:21). (1) God “has given to us the ministry of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:18). (2) He has also “committed unto us the word of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:19). As God’s ambassadors we are to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to this world. “God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself” (2 Corinthians 5:19). Now God is in us (the Holy Spirit) reconciling the world unto Himself. We have a responsibility to tell the world of God’s ministry of reconciliation in Christ. We are to beseech people to be reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:20). We are to tell them to come to God through Jesus Christ. Let us carry out our mission that one day we might hear God say, “Well done thou good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).
