The Good Shepherd

John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”

The greatest expression of love: Jesus said, “Greater love has no man than this; that a man lay down his life for his friends.” He said, “I lay down My life for the sheep…No man takes it from me, but I lay it down of Myself” (John 15:17-18).

He knows His sheep: Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of Mine” (John 10:14). “He calls His own sheep by name, and leads them out” (John 10:3). “When He puts forth His own sheep, He goes before them, and the sheep follow Him: for they know His voice” (John 10:4).

He gives them eternal life: I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish; neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand” (John 10:28-29). He not only gives us eternal life but as our Shepherd, He protects us and preserves us.

Our responsibility: We are to be ever listening for His voice and following Him. Herein shall we be blessed.

I leave you with Paul’s closing in 2 Corinthians 13:14:”The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost be with you all. Amen”.
